Dream a little dream

I’m approaching month 10 since my stroke and endarterectomy, signed back to my GP and on the standard cocktail of meds. I’m mobile and able to get around with a cane. My wife had AF but is stable on heart meds after a successful cardioversion 2 years ago. She will soon be getting a hip replacement to deal with her arthritis. So when that’s all done and dusted and she’s recovered I’m thinking what we both need is a proper holiday somewhere warm, maybe early autumn. So the obvious first thing to consider is insurance. I’ll be 74, she’s 72. I do know it’s not likely to be cheap, but before I even start looking at holiday packages does anybody have any idea from experience roughly how much 2 weeks travel insurance is likely to cost a couple of relics like us? I’m talking Europe, maybe Spain or Greece, not anywhere exotic. I was going to try phoning around but of course I don’t have any specific destination or dates yet,
so thought I’d ask here first. Thanks in advance if you can help :slightly_smiling_face:

Hey,

I posted my recent experience with Allclear Insurance company (recommended by TripAdvisor), I’m 59 and had my stroke 1.5 years ago, of course I declared that plus the BP meds I’m on. Just under £300 for a whole year for my wife and I. Covers Europe only.

Good luck, Roland

One thing, don’t forget to apply for your Global health insurance card (GHIC) from the NHS

I paid just over £200 for hubby & I with RIAS. That was for Europe. You could do what I did & use a comparison site & make up some dates & destinations just to get a feel for prices.

Really hope your holiday dream comes to fruition.

@pando thanks, the last time we used Staysure and they were nearly 300 for a fortnight, but that was just coming out of lockdowns so I suppose it’s demand driven. Talking that sort of figure makes it feasible . Of course we’ve both passed the magic 70 now, so we’ll see. I have to wait first to get my wife’s hip job over and signed off. Cheers.

@Mrs5K Thanks, I was thinking when the dust settles I’ll try asking for some quotes with random dates :+1:

If you haven’t already searched for insurance on here you should do so because there are several posts that mention several companies.

There’s a specialist medical comparison one mentioned in one of the threads which will turn up if you Google as well as several that advertise medical condition coverage

@SimonInEdinburgh yes I’ll do a search and comparison. I need to wait for the hip operation to be over and healed before I can make a move. Arranging travel insurance used to be a cheap 5 minute job online but I now need to actually speak to them because of the various medical declarations. It’s only really medical insurance that I need, I’m not even bothered about possessions or cancellation but it comes as a package.

It’s great to make positive plans, I’m on roughly the same page as you. My early research indicates, strangely, it can be cheaper to take 12 months insurance rather than single trip. I’ve used a comparison site that saves a lot of trouble but in the past have plumbed for Holiday Extras. Good luck and Bon voyage.

@Jamesp I was thinking that annual might be a better option because of the setting up. I can then book a holiday knowing I already have the insurance.
