A First šŸ„‡

Hi simon thankyou for your messageā€‹:blush:i joined in april 2022 and mine is such a long story, these 2 years have been hell and back but im proof of how far you can come,i am doing amazingly well,go back 2 years.i was 38 and woke up in the middle of night to what i can only explain as moving arms like i couldnā€™t control them so i got up all panicky as i thought i was having a fit at 1st then i couldnt walk straight i was struggling so i went to A&E to be told it dosent sound like iv had a stroke so i was sitting in the waiting room for about 5 hours before i had a scan and put straight onto the stroke ward,i can remember the day after that i couldnā€™t focus properly and i felt drunk so walking was all over the place then i started getting all my words mixed up,i was in hospital for 5days id had 3 blood clots on the brain and it affected my cerebellum so iv been left with aphasia so my communication is really poor but by messages its perfect(its very strange)i find it so frustrating when im trying to communicate,i become so emotional and dont know what to do,when i got home from the hospital thats when my recovery started,my partner had to leave his job of 18 years to become my full time carer hes been a tower of strength, hes helped with absolutely everything from toilet needs to cooking,i had some adjustments to the house i think i was bed bound for a good couple of weeks and when i had to go to the eye specialist about a week later i had to go in a wheelchair with 1 of those nets over me to keep me safe, when i got to the eye hospital i found out 3 of the nerves in my eyes had been affected so i was given prism glasses,i started to want to get stronger i was adamant this wasnt going to hold me back so i started going for little walks with my partner around the block then it was a bit furthur till i gradually i could walk up to my local tescos but i wouldnt go in id just walk up there and back as i was to afraid and overwhelmed,i always wore my hood up so nobody could see me then eventually i went into tescos and things were very overwhelming but i did it :slightly_smiling_face:then it was going up to my local town centre via taxi, holding my partners arm at all times for my balance,we now go for long walks up to the duck pond which take about 2 hours all together,i have a 17 year old daughter who became a young carer for my 4 year old daughter as my partner had to be mostly with me,iv been rebuilding myself since i had the stroke, from where i was bed bound, toilet and bathing needs and cooking and shopping i can mainly do it all with my partners helpā€‹:slightly_smiling_face:i have came such a long way from day 1 my mom calls me an inspiration, when you go thrugh something so debilitating every little mile stone is such a postive, all my little milestones have now turned into big milestone and people can do it,it takes time and you will get there.for all those of you who have had a stroke you will get thereā€‹

Hi.well done it sounds like you are doing amazing and your only 5 months in,little steps leads to big improvents,i can remember when the ocupational therapist came out and she said transfer the pasta into another bowl and something as simple as that was a really difficult challenge but now i can use my phone like txting etc and paint my nails,it might take me longer than usual but i can do it,i wish you and jackie all the best for the future, you have many good things to comešŸ™‚
