Understanding Chronic stroke patients’ perceptions of virtual group exercise

Long-term participation in exercise is important for chronic stroke patients from 6 months after diagnosis.

In recent years, virtual exercise group classes popularity has risen. However, the evidence base exploring what chronic stroke patients’ personal perceptions of these virtual group session is very limited.

Therefore, we want to explore chronic stroke patients’ perceptions of virtual group exercise, through a short online survey that can be accessed here.

We are particularly interested in:

  1. Overall experiences chronic stroke patients have had with virtual group exercise.
  2. Whether there are any benefits chronic stroke patient have experienced with virtual group exercise.
  3. Whether there are any barriers chronic stroke patient have experienced to participation within virtual group exercise.
  4. Where chronic stroke patients feel virtual group exercise fits within their rehabilitation.

Who can take part?

You can take part if you have:

  • Participated in virtual group exercise (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams or other online video software).
  • Have had a previous diagnosis of stroke.
  • Are at least 6-months post your last stroke.
  • Are at least 18 years old.

To be included within this study you must:

  • Be able to complete the online survey through the link provided to you.
  • Be able to understand the reason for completing the study and the questions within the study.
  • Give informed consent (this will be provided at the start of the online survey).

How can I take part?

The link to the survey is here: Chronic stroke patients perceptions of virtual group exercise.

The study will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. You will be asked to give informed consent at the start of the survey.

You will be then asked three demographic questions (age, gender and time post-stroke) and four questions with regards to your previous experience with virtual group exercise. The survey link will be open for one month.

Taking part is entirely voluntary. If you decided to take part, you do not have to answer any questions you would not like to. You can also stop completing the online survey at any time by exiting the webpage.

Once you have submitted your answers, you will not be able to withdraw. However, no confidential information (e.g., name or contact information) will be collected at any point. All data will also be anonymous.
