Reflecting on my stroke journey (so far)

Dear Ann, having read your story, I believe you are probably looking for things to do in the exercise area, being a fit and active girl I wrote a story on getting exercise equipment from Wheelpower have a look, I also have joined a local (move or lose it) activity group in my community center, it turns out I am the toy boy of the group but everyone is friendly and helpful and I enjoy the activities. just-food for thought from me
best wishes as always

john

Thanks John @bigjay57
I will have a look at your suggestions.
Best regards

Ann

Hi Anne
Thank you for your reply sorry it took me a while to answer.
I did in fact have my stroke 5th December 2021
Still having problems with balance and dizzy.
I also am having pins and needles in my effected hand and leg.
18 months is a long time. They do say after 12 months that is as good as you get.
Hope your symptoms get better soon. We must keep in touch with our symptoms.
Dolla xx

@Butcherd01 Hi Dolla,

My stroke was diagnosed on 3rd Dec so we are pretty much on the same timeline with our recovery. My balance issues are better than they were but not gone yet. I get a lot of headaches too. Not sure if you do too? I’ve heard varying timescales mentioned in relation to recovering functionality. I don’t they really know as it is different for everyone. I think our own determination will play a big part in it. I think there is always hope.
Please do let me know how you’re getting on.
Take care

Hi I had my stroke in October 21, I have recently returned to work and go to an away aerobics class once a week, it’s great I find it easier to move in the water and it makes me feel good

@Lynne71 I have done some of my exercises in the pool recently. I found it easier too. Sadly my local pool closed at minute so back to exercising out of water.
Hope you’re getting on ok at work.

Evening all!! Hope everyone is well… just a quick question, I’m due to go on holiday in 3 weeks but feeling quite anxious about flying😬 has anyone travelled abroad since having their stroke, my consultant thinks it will be fine as I am already taking blood thinners x lynne x

@Loshy sonetimes it’s hard to find somewhere you feel comfortable, hope you keep up the good work, shame about your pool, I don’t think I could hear everyone watching me in a gym xx

@Lynne71 I have not long come back from my holiday in Majorca. I was anxious about flying too but it was ok. The worst bit for me was the noise as I have very sensitive hearing since my stroke. I took ear plugs which helped with that. I had assistance at the airport but the flight itself was uneventful. I just made sure I kept moving my legs. Im sure you’ll be ok. Have a fab holiday :sun_with_face::sun_with_face::sun_with_face::sun_with_face::sun_with_face::sun_with_face:

@Mrs5K hope you enjoyed your break, I had my stroke while I was in Majorca last October, celebrating by 50th birthday, not exactly how I had planned it but there we go, anxious but looking forward to a break again, lazing around and sleeping when I need to. Lynne x

@Lynne71 oh wow no wonder you’re anxious. That must have been difficult for you having to get medical help in a different country. I went to Majorca this May to celebrate my 50th. It was lovely but didn’t do huge amounts as mobility still a bit limited & fatigue a big issue. Was nice to get some sun, rest & relax though. Definitely worth the effort.
Hope you have a lovely time xxx

So well said thank you for your message so positive jope all goes well and your journey continues in a positive direction xx

Thank you. Hope all going well with your journey too xx

Hi there

Had my stroke back in December 21 on the 30th had gone for a Hogmanay break and fell of the coach, into hospital for new year, still fatigued, disorientated and depressed, we were due to have a cruise in August but realised I wouldn’t be able to cope with walking on the ship so we cancelled the trip. Realty struck hard. Now looking forward to planning a holiday in 2023 having read all the positive messages it has made me realise that I am not alone and not to be so introspective,

Thanks to all of you for your signs of hope

Look forward to reading more of your thoughts

Allan

Yes Alan we have to be grateful and keep our peckers up. Mood swings come and go but the good folk who post on here with their positive advice are Saints bless um

@Allan_4389 such a shame you had to cancel the cruise. I love cruising but it is difficult to get around a ship. Hopefully you’ll be able to go soon. Might be worth checking with cruise company as I’m sure they will be able to make it accessible for you.
I have been away this year following my stroke last Dec. Not on a cruise but it was lovely to get away. It did take some additional planning if only because things like walk in showers become really important & which I’d never given a thought to before.
Best wishes.

Ann thanks for your reply, just stripped the bed, left breathless, in sunny Blackpool, we are planning an autumn coach trip but its more difficult because my wife of 50yrs is blind and things need to be properly organised, she also has mobility problems so it needs a bit of research and if I can find one, a specialist travel agent. Any ideas?

Once again thank you for your message

@Allan_4389 I know there are a few companies that specialise in holidays for disabled.
I’ve put a couple of links below(I’ve never used the companies so don’t know if any good or not)… I’m sure others can offer some thoughts too. Look at stroke association leaflets as I think they will have useful information too.

Wherever you end up have a great time.
