Recent stroke- looking for guidance

Thanks Rups , as previously stated, I’m not very knowledgeable on strokes. Cerebellar, is it brain stem & some one said top of spine, nearby or similar? Also heard this area is also similar, to old fashion, telephone exchange, all "cables " go through. :joy: .

Would be interested in your opinion. Heat , dark room & fan . Your garden, reminds me of our previous barn, north Devon. So apprenticeship of being in small bungalow now. But oh do miss Devon. Good talking David.

Cerebellum sits on top of brain stem, the brain stem plugs into the cerebellum. The cerebellum is often called “The Little Brain”, although it houses eighty-percent of the neurones. It’s sometimes called the primitive brain, like a telephone exchange. It’s a useful bit of kit, and when it goes awry, it really messes up the whole lot.

I had a three month review with the Stroke Nurse which was basically just a check in and then another review after 6 months. I had fully expected to be discharged at this despite continuing to suffer quite a few residual symptoms but it was quite the contrary - she did a lot of tests there and is referring me for more. As you say, services seem to vary enormously between areas.

Apparently there is a specialist neuro-physio at our local hospital but I only know that because I read a post on a community page on Facebook introducing her and asking about accomodation.

That’s @David3 analogy, I was just reinforcing it :grinning:

Hi @Caroline52
Was wondering how you were getting on? Are you feeling a bit better now? Hope so!
My GP signed me off for 2 months so that was relief. Definitely couldn’t cope with work right now…just trying to get back to a bit of normality like going shopping and going for a walk and end up exhausted. But definitely feeling a wee bit more confident in myself which is good.
Best Wishes,
Sarah

Hi Sarah
Good to hear that you have been signed off- we are both in jobs that require us to be 100% at all times!
I am finding it all a bit tough but then things always seem a bit bleaker at the end of the day! Motion type nausea and this continued feeling of my head “ filling up” can be wearing. I have found a way to gently exercise which helps me with the emotional turbulence and the pressure- I live right by the sea and so I take myself into the water - shallow depth and gently swim -in a wetsuit. It is so low impact it offers me some relief from my symptoms and helps me cope with the emotional stuff.
I regularly worry that my symptoms won’t go or that I won’t make it back to work in 3 months but then I remind myself of the gp’s advice to think in months rather than weeks.
It can be a lonely journey but this forum is a help. I hope that you continue to recover and it’s good to hear your positivity. Stay in touch x

I’m envious of you living right by the sea and getting in for a swim. A few weeks ago, a good friend of mine drove me to Gullane and we had a wee swim and I told her it was the first time I’d felt good since the stroke. It was a wonderful morning. I intend to try to do some more swimming soon.
I find my mood changes daily or even more regularly… sometimes I feel great and confident I will bounce back from all this and then other times I feel a bit lost and very unsure of my recovery. It’s not easy I agree. And every unexpected twinge or pain I’m worried something else will go wrong.
I bought myself a Fitbit so I can track my steps and heart rate and also sleep ( important for healing) and have found that quite motivating this week. Seeing the steps go up.
I’m trying to just focus on each day and not let my mind race too far into the future. One day at a time I think is the best philosophy for now.
I also find this forum very helpful…other people who have gone through similar have insight into how we feel. Take care! X
