Bit of a strange one this, I’m guessing it only applies to the blokes on here but you never know!But since your stroke has anyone noticed they’ve become more hairy on their affected side?
Prior to the stroke I wasn’t the hairiest of men.ive got a full head of hair but arms, legs chest weren’t that hairy.
Now since the stroke my affected side has grown a bit more fuzz. My wife has been noticing that I’m becoming a bit more hairy on my left side. She says at the age of 48 I’ve finally reached puberty! 
Is this a common phenomenon with strokes?

Very strange, sorry can’t help with this one. Pleased to say I haven’t got hairier since my stroke 
.
Hopefully there’s a hairy man out there somewhere who can help

The Pituitary gland is right in the middle of the brain and that is responsible for all growth. So it’s likely that your stroke struck close enough to it that it’s made it hypersensitive to growth, but not damaged it. It would be fascinating to know if you’ve noticed any other growth spurts such as finger/toe nails growing at a different rate or even you heal quicker from a cut or scrape

Yes well, the Pituitary gland show no discretion . . . and women do have hair too you know . . . just maybe not as much

That’s a very strange stroke after effect that I hadn’t heard of before. I certainly didn’t get any hairier.

Another female reply. First, women actually have more facial, chest and abdominal hair than men…it is just less course and generally light colored so not very noticeable. And in reply to your actual question, for me, the answer is no, but…
Not more hairy, but more coarse and darker. Also, I lost all of the hair on my head (probably not from stroke, rather from cardiothoracic surgery). It was very long, very straight and very fine. It has grown back, more coarse, darker, and very curly. Curly hair grows to help control body temperature. I suppose all those fevers and sweating may have been the cause. Curly hair holds the sweat to keep one cooler. Weird. I am finally getting used to the new curls and seemingly very full head of hair at my advanced age. Happy puberty! I hope the energy comes along with it.

My nails grow quicker snd stronger than they used to pre?stroke. Im hairy anyway but no real difference from affected side to my right side.

Yes indeed I’ve noticed - female hairdressing is an excuse for a chinwag and a national pastime isn’t it?

OMG. As an already hairy guy, I really hope my stroke doesn’t make my hair grow anymore on my body, or I could be classed as a new Yeti, but in the plus side if it grew in my bald head that would be a plus.

@stokiejoey i havent got hairier what i have noticed is my fingernails on my left affected side grow very quickly. having had short nail bitten fingernails all my life so far, i’m now getting them cut every 2 weeks

So either your stroke struck close enough to your Pituitary gland to make it hypersensitive to growth too, or you just can’t get your stroke hand up close enough to your mouth to bite your nails anymore
