It was a happy ending/ We kept him indoors all day and gradually moved the cardboard box into the utility room so he could get used to cooler temperatures then when it got dusk took him in his box up the garden and left him in it but he would be able to get out. My husband went up later and he had gone and an adult hedgehog was eating the food left in the box so all was well he is back with his family.
