Bad head

I would like to join in someday, I am rubbish with organising my time. I plan something and then end up doing something else, frequently.

Thanks Rups! This is my worry as in the run up to my stroke I was also diagnosed as having BPVV. When I challenged the fact that my BPVV seemingly disappeared after my stroke I was told it wasnā€™t uncommon for strokes to cure vertigo.

I am very worried that I am 1.5 years further and now being diagnosed as having vertigo again. The GP will not refer me to the stroke unit as there is no physical evidence that I may have had a 2nd stroke. My first stroke didnā€™t present itself in the usual way (FACE).

Shwmae @Alis, did you have a cerebellar stroke? Cerebellar stroke symptoms often donā€™t match the FACE response. I had a cerebellar stroke, and know of many who were also misdiagnosed.

My stroke was in the left occipital lobe which sits, I believe, just above the Cerebellum.

Oh okay, aye, occipital lobe strokes have visual-spatial issues like cerebellar strokes. You probably know that the occipital lobe is the hemisphere that manages a lot of visual functions but not entirely on its own.

Fascinating explanation of what may be happening during the two steps forward one and a half steps backwards process of recovery. Thank you. I have no idea whether I still have a stroke nurse and since I never saw a stroke consultant (live in a very rural area, and if a neighbour with unstable angina canā€™t get a specialist I very much doubt whether I will) so I have to bother my GP with any woes and although she is great, she is a) a Generalist not a specialist and b) only one very busy person so she wonā€™t have either the knowledge or the time to go through things with me unless they are very obvious or urgent

Indeed just the S bit of FAST for me and my cerebellar stroke. Other symptoms loss of strength, metallic taste, double/blurred vision, balance issues. Luckily the paramedics were on the ball, not conclusively diagnosed but suspected and in the ambulance phoned ahead to make sure stroke specialist was in A&E when I arrived.

Shwmae @FionaB1, the brain files away experience to use in the future. I have mastered walking around my house, I can do jobs in the garden, and walk in the woods, but put me in an unfamiliar environment and I can start to fall apart.

Thatā€™s reassuring @EssexPhil. I talk about cerebellar stroke to almost anyone who asks or knows I have had a stroke. Itā€™s important that folk have it on their radar if something askew happens. Hope the start of your week has been all right.

Yes definitely. It was more like being drunk than a stroke, had i been out and about the response might have been quite different.

At about the same time i had mine there was a guy appearing on BBC Breakfast trying to get in touch with a nurse who had been the only person to stop and help when he had his stroke in town. He presented exactly as drunken including being sick and people just ignored him. :frowning:

Shwmae @EssexPhil, I can relate to that. Paramedics checked a wine bottle on my desk because I had been throwing up and was legless on the floor.

Iā€™ve had a few wry smiles when iā€™ve been doing my wobbly walking in local town from people who think Iā€™ve been drinking. I woukdbā€™t mind but Iā€™m tea totalā€¦i just smile back at them :rofl:

i can totally sympathise with those balance symptoms, i fought hard to regain mobility. i used tai chi for beginners videos on youtube.

Shwmae @bikerdave, I also do tai chi, itā€™s the best form of gentle, controlled exercise I have come across.

@bikerdave welcome to the forum. Iā€™ve never tried tai chi but will have a look and see if it might help.

So I eventually started taking my betahistine tablets to see if I could shift the dizzy feeling & for 1 day I felt a bit better. Yesterday morning though I started to feel really woozy/dizzy again. This time accompanied by feeling very sick. Any movement at all made me feel like I was going to fall over so a sofa day it was. Followed by a very early to bed in the hope that my head would stop spinning. This morning I felt a little better but Iā€™m now feeling a bit worse again although better than yesterday. I havenā€™t felt this rough since having my stroke. Iā€™ve looked back at my diary to see if Iā€™d done anything to bring this on & I canā€™t identify a culprit. Iā€™ve doneca covid test & that was negative so Iā€™m at a loss as to why Iā€™m feeling like this. Feeling very sorry for myself today!! More rest it is then :grin:

@Loshy thank you. Next week iā€™ll be 12 months post stroke & i really thought by now iā€™d be past all these type of symptoms. I donā€™t suppose iā€™m the only one who thought that.
I havenā€™t spoken to my GP yet. Getting hold of them is difficult & my GP doesnā€™t work Fridays. Iā€™m still waiting for stroke team to get back to me following a previous call. I will definitely.get checked out if it continues though.
Itā€™s a little reassuring to hear you had the same. Not that i wish it on anyone as its horrible but makes me feel a bit better knowing its probably a normal part of the recovery process. Stroke really does suck doesnā€™t it.
Thank you for hug & positive thoughts. I really need them today.
Sending some in return :hugs::hugs:

@Loshy I love that hug thank you. I donā€™t think its my meds as been taking them almost 12 months without any issues. I did have a load of bloods done this week following a GP visit & theyā€™re all normal apart from my bone & calcium ones which is another storyā€¦still waiting investigations for them. I mentioned the dizziness to GP last week & she seemed to think its all from my stroke. This bout is another level though. Iā€™ll give myself a kick up the backside in a minute :rofl:

Thank you @Mahoney iā€™m still feeling yuck but hope the meds will help very soon. Being permanently dizzy is quite debilitating.

Hope you have a lovely weekend.

I have suffered with the same as you since my stroke in 2017 . Mine feels heavy and peculiar and I cannot describe it to anyone. It affects everything I do my husband has to do most of the housework. I have seen various specialists and the recent ear nose and throat specialist thinks it is my inner ear and I do Brandt Deroff exercises daily there might be a very small improvement but I am still suffering. Hope to hear from you. Norma Jean.
